Understanding PRP

Your own plasma.
A considered approach.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared from a small sample of your blood. A centrifuge separates the sample to produce plasma containing a concentration of platelets.

Platelets contain growth factors involved in the body’s repair processes. In aesthetics, PRP is used in treatments aimed at improving aspects of skin quality.

Research into cosmetic PRP is still developing. Benefits are not guaranteed; your assessment helps determine whether it is appropriate.

The treatment approaches

Understand
your options.

How PRP is used matters. Your practitioner can explain the differences, the evidence and which services are currently available.

01 / INJECTIONS

PRP injections

Prepared PRP is injected into selected areas of skin. The treatment plan depends on your concerns, health history and clinical assessment.

02 / MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin. PRP may be used alongside it as part of an individually assessed treatment plan.

Is PRP a filler? No. Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume; PRP is a different treatment with different goals. Confirm the available services and your proposed treatment with Beauty MD.

Your appointment

What happens during
a PRP treatment?

01

Talk it through

Discuss your goals, medical history and current medications. Ask about alternatives, expected benefits and risks.

02

Prepare the PRP

If treatment is appropriate, a small blood sample is collected and processed to prepare the platelet-rich plasma.

03

Your treatment

Your practitioner follows the agreed treatment plan and explains what to expect during your appointment.

04

Care & review

Follow your individualized aftercare instructions. Your practitioner will advise on follow-up and any further treatment.

Before you decide

Results, recovery
& treatment costs

Ask what improvement is realistic for your skin, how much recovery time to plan for and what your treatment will cost.

Using your own blood does not make PRP risk-free. Infection and other complications are possible. Your practitioner will discuss the risks relevant to you.

Results

Changes, if they occur, develop over time. Response varies, and more than one session may be discussed.

Recovery

Redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur. Recovery and aftercare depend on the procedure.

Suitability

PRP is not suitable for everyone. Your health history and medications need to be reviewed before treatment.

Investment

Ask for a personalized quote that explains the proposed treatment, follow-up and any additional costs.

PRP treatment FAQs

Your questions,
answered.

For advice specific to your skin and health history, speak with the Beauty MD team.

Is PRP the same as a filler?

No. PRP is prepared from your own blood. Dermal fillers are separate products, commonly based on hyaluronic acid, used to add volume. Your practitioner can explain the difference and whether either is appropriate.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no single schedule that suits everyone. The number and spacing of appointments depend on the procedure, your response and your practitioner’s assessment.

Will I need time to recover?

Plan for the possibility of temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising. Ask your practitioner about work, exercise, skin care and when to resume your usual routine.

Is PRP right for my skin?

That requires a clinical assessment. Your practitioner should review your goals, skin, health history and medications, and discuss alternatives before you decide.

What will my treatment cost?

Contact Beauty MD for current pricing. Your quote should specify the treatment proposed and whether any follow-up or additional procedures are included.
