What Are Injected Denervating Agents? (Botox)
Denervating agents (also called neurotoxins) may not sound familiar to you, but most people are familiar with at least one brand approved for cosmetic use: Botox.
Botox is a botulinum A type neurotoxin that prevents the nerve reaction necessary for the injected muscles to contract, preventing lines and wrinkles caused by repeated, localized muscle contractions. The result is a reduction in the ability to make facial expressions that create wrinkles and deep folds in the skin. Patients using Botox will see varying degrees of improvement from complete erasure to very visible softening.
