EC Community: 2011 Spring Trend Guide by WEM

Fashion to Love
Have you seen the 2011 Spring trend guide by West Edmonton Mall (WEM)? It's filled with wardrobe ideas for spring: lots of bright colours, bold contrast, detailed tailoring and global flair. When it came to hair WEM asked EvelineCharles stylist and EC's Edmonton Creative team leader, Dean Allan to style the model according to Spring 2011 fashion.
Suzy: What do you call the hairstyle?
Dean: I like to call it Top Knot with a Pompadour Twist. Before the up-do her hair was down in big brushed out curls. 70s are back this Spring.
S: How long did it take to complete?
D: Not long, for the first look I wanted to add texture and lift, I started by spraying EC Surfer Spray at the root of her hair and then back combed, after I curled her hair using EC To the Edge hairspray to set her voluminous sexy curls. I finished the whole look with Shantung Silk serum, which is like Moroccan Oil but lighter so better; it provides shine and smoothes out any frizz.

S: Where did you learn how to do it?
D: I recently attended a workshop where I got the chance to really refine my finishing techniques and dress work. I spent 5 days in the Hamptons with hairstylist icon, Vivienne MacKinder. It was very intimate; myself, Teresa Gentili (stylist at WEM EvelineCharles) and 3 other stylists got to work one-on-one with Vivienne. It was amazing! She tailored the workshop to fulfill our requests, every morning over coffee we would chat about what we'd like to learn and then we'd start working. I learned new techniques in razor cutting, braiding, wig and dress work, also different ways to use a curling iron and 5 different forms of back combing. From fluff and puff to stack and pack I know how to enhance hairs natural texture to create an amazing new look.

S: What's your favourite look for Spring?
D: Everyone lets loose in the Spring, especially after a long dry Alberta winter. Spring is a great time to embrace your natural texture or create it if it doesn't come naturally. Braiding, backcombing and using products like Surfer Spray to create a bohemian or beachy look. Accessorising with a cute hat is always good too. For Spring colors I personally love combining orange and blue. More so with my wardrobe choices but it can also be applied to hair color, if someone has carrot red hair I think blue is the perfect clothing or accessory color to compliment it for Spring.
S: Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna go wild and let my hair be curly till the cold comes again!!
D: Good- We're already planning our Fall/Winter collection photo shoot for the end of this month! I say enjoy summer right NOW and Stay Fabulous!
