What happens after I graduate from the Academy? Am I certified as a hairstylist? Am I a certified esthetician?
Hair Design and Professional Advanced Esthetic students will graduate with a Diploma in their chosen fields from the EC Academy.
HAIR DESIGN
Hair Design is a designated trade known as Hairstylist. There are a few steps after graduation before getting certified, the first step is a Provincial Theory exam. After passing the exam, graduates must then apprentice in a salon for 1400 hours before they can take their Provincial Practical Exam. Once the student has successfully passed both exams, the student can obtain their Journeyman Hairstylist Certificate. At the time of their Provincial Exam, students may also take their Red Seal Exam which is a standard widely recognized by employers across Canada.
PROFESSIONAL ADVANCED ESTHETICS
In Alberta, Esthetics is not a designated trade and as such receive no certification from the Government of Alberta - students receive a diploma from the Academy and can obtain employment immediately.
Do I need to have any previous experience to be eligible for admission?
Previous industry experience is not necessary. To review the Academy Admission Requirements click the study course program of interest: Hair Design or Professional Advanced Esthetics.
What if I don't have my high school diploma?
If you are over 18 you can be eligible for mature student status. Please click the course program of interest (Hair Design or Professional Advanced Esthetics) for more information.
Do I get to keep the student kit?
Yes, the student kit is meant for you to use for your career after the Academy.
What is Cosmetology? Don't you teach hairstyling school?
Cosmetology is defined as the art of beautifying the hair, nails and skin. The Hair Design program, part of our Hairstyling School, focuses on hair, however you will learn a basic manicure, pedicure, facial and makeup application in addition to traditional hair stylist training. Read more about our Hairstyling School.
Do you teach makeup?
In both our cosmetology program (hairstyling school) and our esthetics courses we teach cosmetic application, we also offer a part-time make-up artistry certificate program.
What is a starting wage for a Hairstylist? Esthetician?
Wages will differ depending on the salon or spa you are employed with. Visit the Alberta Apprenticeship and Training website for more information.
Do you have the Apprenticeship Program?
Apprenticeship training is delivered at the EvelineCharles Academy. Eligibility for Apprenticeship is determined by the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Divison of Advanced Education. If you are eligible for hairsylist training, you must contact the registrar's office to enroll. Acceptance will be on a first come, first served basis. Read more about the Apprenticeship Program.
Do you transfer credits from Hair Design/Cosmetology in high school?
To ensure all students are highly trained both in theory and practical application, our Academy's instructional format is to start each student at the same level and grow their skills in accordance with the standards we have set at the Eveline Charles Academy.
Credits from high school cosmetology programs are not recognized by our Academy as the instructional format and standards are different.
Does EvelineCharles Academy offer student loans?
EvelineCharles Academy is registered as a Private Institution with Alberta Advanced Education and Technology and is recognized with Alberta and Canada Student Loans. If you like, you can request an application package from the Admissions Leader at the Academy or visit here for an electronic application. Approval for student loans can take 2 - 4 weeks, so it is best to apply early.
