Too Smart To Be A Hairdresser

"You are too smart to be a hair dresser"
Is the Beauty Industry a Future Career for you?
by Candace Flaro-Cosmetology

"You are too smart to be a hair dresser" or "You can do so much better than being just a hair dresser." Are these phrases you've heard once or twice from people in your life? I know that I sure have. But really, have any of these people ever thought about the opportunities that this ever changing and constantly growing industry can bring?

When I was deciding what I wanted to do every day for the rest of my life, I needed to think about what I'd be happy doing because no one wants to go to work miserable.  Other questions that I asked myself were; how much money did I want to make, and what would be something that is constantly growing so that I'd still have a job 30 years from now. Well, the beauty industry offers the opportunity to help people look good and feel great about themselves; it has the potential to generate a healthy living, and as long as there are people in this world there will always be work to do.  Furthermore, this is an industry that cannot be completely taken over by ever evolving technology.

Being a hair stylist requires a desire for continuing education, creativity, exceptional technical cutting skills and of course a friendly personality to keep those clients coming back in. To me this is all sounding pretty good, so why do people have negative feelings towards this industry and why do people think that "smart" people are better than this? I will never know but I do know that it doesn't matter what career path you choose; it is what you make of it, you take out of it what you choose, and you do with it as you choose. Your willingness to succeed will determine your income and opportunity so yes it is very possible to go nowhere in this industry but that is all up to you and not the career you choose.

The beauty industry offers an upbeat, creative, ever changing, ever evolving opportunity. So my advice to all of you who are at that point of making one of the biggest decisions of your life is; do you want to go to work every day making a difference in somebody's life? Do you want to know if you will still have a job 30 years from now? Do you want to have the opportunity to take your career to the next level and be able to move around in different areas such as film to photo shoots? And of course I don't even have to ask about who wants to make a healthy income because we all do and this industry offers us the chance to make as much or a little as we want, it just all depends on how we choose to take on this industry. Don't get discouraged from what others think; do what is right for you, that is what I have done and I have found myself here at EvelineCharles Academy only 3 months away from graduation and that much closer to my career in the beauty industry!
