Calgary Academy sneak peek review by Fashion Calgary

A peek inside EvelineCharles Academy by FashionCalgary.ca

On May 28th, I attended an open house for Eveline Charles Academy and was given a tour by their Marketing and PR Coordinator, Jacqueline Taylor. The Academy, touted as the only Canadian beauty academy affiliated with international hairstyling powerhouse Vidal Sassoon, is located on the top floor of the CORE shopping centre. Spacious and bright, there are rooms upon rooms where customers can get all sorts of services done, from waxing to haircuts to facials.
The true purpose of my visit was to understand and experience a bit of what the Academy has to offer both its students and its customers. I sat in on a presentation geared towards potential students where the first thing I heard was that yes, the beauty industry is a place where one can find jobs. In fact, noted the presenter, during our hard economic times the beauty industry saw a raise in jobs produced; people will always need to get their hair cut and coloured or their legs waxed-and Eveline Charles hopes to attract all of these customers by it's unique philosophy.
For the Academy, hair and makeup are used to convey mood, attitude and personality, so that all it's customers leave the premises with a look that is truly "them". Eveline Charles, the founder of the the Academy and its salons, found that in Alberta there was a genuine lack of hairdressers able to deliver anything more than basic cuts which lacked creativity and the ability to translate one's inner self into one's outer self. She decided that a great education would be the best way to create a wealth of such hairdressers in Calgary and she thus sought to be affiliated with Vidal Sassoon, which has been educating potential hairdressers for over 35 years.
And the results seem to have paid off. Cosmetology student, Miranda Stewart, from the Edmonton branch of the Academy, placed second in the world wide Sassoon Academy School Connection competition, putting Alberta on the map for trendsetting hairstyles. With three Academies now open (one each in Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary), the hope is that more Miranda Stewarts will be found and in addition to providing customers with an exception styling experience, the trendsetting looks that will
come out of this Academy will contribute to the development of a High Fashion atmosphere over here in Western Canada.
