EC Academy: 2011 Hair Massacure
EvelineCharles Academy is proud to be part of the 8th annual Hair Massacure!
What it's all about: The Hair Massacure originated in November of 2002 by the MacDonald Family, prompted by the third hair loss incurred by their youngest daughter Kali (nearing completion of her 3 year chemotherapy program). Gordon MacDonald, Kali's Dad and founder wanted others to experience what cancer patients do while raising awareness and funds to support families through tough times. Color your hair PINK then shave it all off! And if anyone asks be sure to tell them you're doing it for a good cause and let them know they can help by making a pledge.
The first Hair Massacure event in 2002 claimed 48 proud victims and raised $37,000 for the Kids With Cancer Society. As Eveline would advise: Think big and your deeds will grow, and they did! In 2010 the event raised $1 million and supported three foundations- Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation and Ronald MacDonald House. Even members of Edmonton City council and the Edmonton Oilers got pinked to raise pledges and awareness. Currently the event only takes place in Edmonton, Alberta but I'm sure is other city's joining in!
EvelineCharles Academy is proud to be involved by offering hair pinking services for participants until February 11th.
