Following in my Mother's Footsteps
by Shauni Poyser -
Cosmetology
Growing up I have always wanted to follow in my mother's footsteps
and become a hairstylist. Not only did I want to create different
looks, I wanted to give women that one hour to relax and leave the
salon feeling their best. I knew I needed not only the technical
training but the interpersonal skills. EvelineCharles is recognized
for their technical abilities and for their programs to better
educate a business orientated stylist; but what most appealed to me
was when I [...]

EC Challenged My Creative Mind
by Demi-Arseneault - Cosmetology
During my experience at EC I have come across many opportunities
to showcase what I am capable of. My best memory though, is the
High School Symposium. Each student that volunteered got a model
and a photo of what exactly we were supposed to execute. The model
chosen for me was one of my friends Ainsley and the photo consisted
of a side swept updo. Although the updo was beautiful, Ainsley
would need extensions but they were unavailable to us. After
talking to my instructor [...]

"You are too smart to be a hair dresser"
Is the Beauty Industry a Future Career for
you?
by Candace Flaro-Cosmetology
"You are too smart to be a hair dresser" or "You can do so much
better than being just a hair dresser." Are these phrases you've
heard once or twice from people in your life? I know that I sure
have. But really, have any of these people ever thought about the
opportunities that this ever changing and constantly growing
industry can bring?
When I was deciding what [...]

Hair Massacure
by Demi Arseneault-
Cosmetology
The lights go up and the music starts to play. From afar I could
hear a man starting to speak into the microphone. As I look up I
see not just one person but a whole family. I stand and listen as
they tell the story of her daughter having cancer and her fight to
survive. Behind me I also notice the hundreds of people lining up
eager to shave their heads for this wonderful cause. As I stand at
my chair I feel inspired and at the same time [...]

A Day In The Life Of An EC Student Part I
by Kristen
Doll-Cosmetology
6:00 am the alarm goes off, as it has three days a week for the
last ten months. There's no sense hitting the snooze button, those
few extra minutes will turn to a few extra hours and then you are
late!
The morning starts off to a slow start, small breakfast, a shower
to wake you up, and at least three cups of coffee just to get a
kick start. You now have to decide on [...]

Summer Sun Tips
by Casandra Dagenais- Cosmetology
What's in? Protecting your skin!!
SPF 30 on
your face and lips at all times will help prevent sun damage,
wrinkles and possible skin cancers. Your skin does not stop
tanning for 24 hours so be sure to reapply throughout the day if
necessary. Mixing a little into your concealer or foundation
and set with a light sheer powder should help to lock it in.
What's hot? Hair Repair!
Don't get too crazy
with your hair masks! Absolutely no more than 2 [...]

How To Diffuse Curly Hair - by Samantha Reesor-
Cosmetology Student
Many people with curly hair don't like to wear their hair
curly. I believe this is because they have never been shown
how to diffuse it properly. Many people with curly hair will
simply scrunch their hair when blow drying it, and are generally
not happy with the results. Sassoon has created yet another
innovation; a way to diffuse curly hair without frizz, flyaway and
crunchy hair. In order to diffuse curly hair just follow
these 3 simple steps:
1) After
detangling hair and adding [...]

I chose to attend EvelineCharles Academy for many reasons:
the reputation, the cutting techniques of Sassoon, the clean and
modern salon atmosphere, but most of all I chose ECA for the 3 day
Cosmetology Program. I saw this as a way to escape the "9-5"
routine as well as the opportunity to work in a salon to gain
experience on my alternate days. This proved to be more
advantageous then I first thought.
While working as an apprentice, I have experienced first hand
the fast pace of a successful salon. I have built
relationships with other stylists and have learned from [...]
