EC Academy takes the stage at Western Canada Fashion Week

EvelineCharles Academy students were thrilled to participate in another year of Western Canada Fashion Week (WCFW). They displayed their talents in the Student Showcase on Sunday, March 24 in a Wizard of Oz-themed runway show. 

"This year was different than anything we've ever done for WCFW," says EvelineCharles Academy's operations director, Amber Guerin. "We had a completely different tone. I would describe it as beautiful and... haunting."

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast cancer awareness month, and EvelineCharles is showing its support. This month, the Salon and Spa division of EvelineCharles has been donating all proceeds from Bloom polish sales to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, as well as $5 from every Hybrid and Shellac application as part of its Mani & PediCURE fundraiser. Donations are also being accepted at all EvelineCharles Salon|Spa and Academy locations.

To show their support, EvelineCharles Academy students are not only collecting donations within the Academy, but took it upon themselves to organize a Breast Cancer Awareness Bake Sale!

After only three months enrolled, a handful of Edmonton (both cosmetology and esthetic) students were given the opportunity to be unleashed from their class curriculum and artistic criteria by given near complete creative control to conceptualize a theme to translate through hair and beauty. EvelineCharles Academy Host Fairy Tales Film Fest Launch

On Wednesday, May 2, EvelineCharles Academy Calgary hosted the launch of The Fairytales Presentation Society's annual Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival, which celebrates films made by and/or about the LGBTTQ and Queer communities.

Students hosted mini-services for the nearly 150 guests in attendance eager to hear the announcement of the festival's film lineup and for the screening of "Leave it on the Floor". EvelineCharles students also challenged themselves to officially put their hair and beauty skills to the test through an official dragover (drag queen makeover- male into female)!

On Friday, May 2, 2012, Alley Oop was performed at Calgary's Stephen Avenue. An operatic performance pushing the boundaries of contemporary opera to a place few go to seek out culture, the street. After being enrolled in the EvelineCharles Academy Cosmetology program for only four months, Tony Nguyen blew us away with his incredible artistic talent. Inspired by The Legends of the Guardian: Owls of Ga'Hoole and the song Fireflies by Owl City, Tony amazed onlookers with his NAHA artwork submission in February.

As a child, Tony spent a lot of time alongside his mom in her hair salon. He finds that his artistic vision develops best when he thinks "outside the salon inspiration", reaching beyond the confines of the salon walls to bring his ideas to life.

On Wednesday, June 15, a benefit concert was held at the River Cree Casino which raised more than $150,000 for the Canadain Red Cross to help people who lost their homes in the Slave Lake wildfire. One-third of the town was destroyed when the fire ripped through the northern Alberta town on May 15.

The biggest night in Hollywood is all about sophisticated glamour. Shades of red and purple were popular colors at the Oscars this year. Many gowns were detailed in lace or adorned with delicate beading, in silver and pearl tones. Western Canada Fashion Week is here again, bringing the world of fashion to the prairies. EvelineCharles Academy participated in the runway show debuting 45 models with all looks completed by EC Academy students. Our students presented 4 seasonal looks at the show; Men, Sassoon inspired, Glamour and Wild - these looks featured the best of the Fall 2010 fashion and runway styles.

 I chose to attend EvelineCharles Academy for many reasons: the reputation, the cutting techniques of Sassoon, the clean and modern salon atmosphere, but most of all I chose ECA for the 3 day Cosmetology Program.  I saw this as a way to escape the "9-5" routine as well as the opportunity to work in a salon to gain experience on my alternate days.  This proved to be more advantageous then I first thought.
